Advantages and disadvantages of rolling plastic steel plate molds and aluminum molds
Everyone is familiar with the process of rotational molding, and its application fields are also very wide. Nowadays, rotational molding products can be used in many aspects. However, it is known that molds are needed to make rotational molding products. Whether steel plate molds or aluminum molds are better when making rotational molding products depends mainly on the product. Let's briefly discuss it below.
It has always been a controversial topic in the rotational molding industry which one is more suitable for the rotational molding process compared to the rotational molding aluminum mold. I think this is a meaningless dispute, and if there really needs to be a result, I believe that the answer is for the benefit of mold manufacturers, not an objective and correct outcome. Perhaps some people still ask, is aluminum mold better or steel plate mold better? I can only say, for example, if you are going to buy a pair of shoes, do you think sports shoes or leather shoes are better? Of course, only what suits oneself is good, and we will choose different types of shoes based on personal preferences or purposes. So, can the debate over the superiority of rotational molding steel plate molds and aluminum molds come to an end? It seems that there is only one answer, as long as it is suitable, it is good. So, at the beginning of mold development, your objective, correct, and rational choice is the main factor.
At the beginning of the development of rotational molding products, we still need to carefully consider which type of rotational molding mold to choose based on the characteristics of the product to be developed, which is crucial. Here are some knowledge about rotational molding steel plate molds and aluminum molds for your reference.
Advantages and disadvantages of rotational aluminum molds:
In terms of production process, rotational molding aluminum molds are divided into cast aluminum molds and aluminum plate carving molds. The former is a traditional craft, with a general process of drawing → wooden mold making → resin mold → casting → precision machining. The latter is a product of the digital age, which is formed in one go through CNC machining centers and has advantages such as beauty and precise size. The disadvantage is that it requires the volume of the mold and cannot produce large rotational molding molds. Aluminum casting molds and aluminum plate carving molds are made of aluminum casting or aluminum alloys. In theory, due to the good thermal conductivity of aluminum, rotational molding aluminum molds should have good heat transfer during the forming process to save energy. However, due to the strength of aluminum, the average thickness of rotational molding aluminum molds is above 10mm, which greatly reduces the advantages that rotational molding aluminum molds should have. On the contrary, compared with rotational molding steel plate molds, the rotational molding cycle is relatively longer. Also, due to the increase in thickness of the aluminum mold, the overall weight of the mold tends to be heavier, which puts a certain burden on the rotational molding machine. Furthermore, due to the characteristics of aluminum, the maintenance of rotational molding aluminum molds is a relatively troublesome task.
Compared to aluminum molds, the emergence history is much later, evolving from the automotive sheet metal mold process, and the technology is not very mature. This is also one of the reasons why the rolling plastic steel plate mold is not favored by industry insiders. However, the rotational molding steel plate mold has many advantages that the rotational molding aluminum mold does not have.
1. Price advantage: In addition to small rotational molding molds, for medium-sized molds, if steel plate molds are used for production, mold costs can be saved by at least one-third.
2. Compared to aluminum molds, steel molds are easier to modify, repair, and maintain
3. Using steel plate molds, as the wall thickness of the steel plate mold is only 2.5 or 3.0mm, the powder melting time will be shortened during the rotational molding process, which to some extent reduces energy consumption
4. By combining traditional craftsmanship with numerical control technology, precise rolling plastic molds can still be produced. In the rolling plastic industry, steel plate molds are widely used. I think that with the development of rotational molding technology and the involvement of practitioners in the rotational molding industry, steel plate molds are still widely used. I think that with the development of rotational molding technology and the improvement of practitioners' understanding of rotational molding steel plate molds, the application of steel plate molds will usher in a new demand boom.
